BACKYARD RUN

Saturday, 6 September 2025

Five Acre Farm, Backwell
Starts 8AM Sharp

30 runners, On the hour, every hour — for ten 5.5km rounds of trail glory.

What is the Backyard Run?

A race format born on backyard runs — fun, grueling, and built for family and team participation.Ten fixed loops.
5.5 km each.
One every hour, on the hour.
Make it back in time? You’re still in. Miss the start? You’re out.
This isn’t about outrunning the competition — unless it is.
It’s about rhythm.
It’s about resolve.
It’s about hearing the horn sound and deciding:
again, or enough?
Run one loop or run all ten.
Race for time. Go for distance.
Or just be part of something a little unhinged.
It’s a challenge. It’s a rhythm.
It’s Backyard Run.

Race Format

The Competitive Bit

Every lap is timed.
Winners are the fastest cumulative time over all 10 laps.
We’ll crown:
• Fastest Male
• Fastest Female
• “Didn’t Think I’d Make It”
• “Longest Personal Distance”
• “Still Smiling at Lap 9”
This is part challenge, part community, part badge of madness.

Participation

Base Camp Vibes

Bring the family. Base camp at Five Acre Farm will be the heartbeat of the day. Picture:
• Fresh farm coffee
• Kids running wild
• Picnic blankets
• Cheering each lap finish
• And a proper party atmosphere
Each runner returns to the same start point every hour, giving time to refuel, recover, high-five the fam, and lace back up before the horn goes.

FAQ

Have you got a question read through these

55 KM

Ten laps. 5.5 km each. That’s the full distance — if you can go the distance. Some will. Most won’t. All are welcome to try.

30 SPOTS ONLY

This isn’t a mass event. It’s small, wild, and personal — just 30 runners on the day. Once it's full, it’s full.

10 HORN BLASTS

Every hour, the horn blows. That’s your cue. Back to the start line, heart pounding, legs burning, eyes on the next lap.

FAQ

Hi, I’m Caleb — I’m organising the Backyard Run.
I’ve pulled together answers to the most common questions below. If there’s anything else you’d like to know, feel free to drop me an email or dm on instagram anytime.

How do I get there?
Five Acre Farm, Pit Lane, West Town, Bristol, BS48 3BQ
Bus: From Bristol Centre, take the bus to Kellway, Backwell stop.
Car: There’s free on-street parking outside Five Acre Farm.
Train: 10-minute walk from Backwell Station.
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive from 7:00AM onwards.
The race briefing is at 7:30AM, and the first loop starts at 8:00AM sharp. The horn goes on the hour — no late starts.
Can I run just one loop?
Absolutely. Run one or run all ten — it’s your race. Just make sure you’re back before the horn sounds if you want to keep going.
What if I don’t finish in time?
If you’re not at the start line when the next lap begins, you're out. That’s the challenge. But hey, you still get glory (and a t-shirt).
Is this suitable for beginners?
Yes, if you like a challenge. You can walk or jog your laps, and there's no pressure to do all ten. Come for the vibe, stay for the fun.
Can spectators join?
Definitely. This is a family-style event. Base camp has a pond, food, and space for kids to roam. We’ve got a stretch tent if it rains and a real community atmosphere.
Are dogs allowed?
Yes — dogs are welcome both at base camp and on the running route, as long as they are kept on a lead at all times. Please bring water for your dog and clean up after them.
Is there medical support?
In case of emergency, we’ll call 999. There’s no medical team on site — you take part at your own risk. Please run within your limits.
Is this an official race?
Nope. This is a friendly, unsanctioned training event organised for fun. Buying a t-shirt gets you entry. We’re here to push ourselves and enjoy the day.
Who's organising this?
Caleb Pedersen — originally from Cape Town, now based in Bristol. I’ve run trails across both cities and wanted to create something local, playful, and just a little mad.
Will there be shelter if it rains?
Yes — we’ve got a big stretch tent set up so your family can stay dry and comfortable while cheering you on.
Is the farm shop open?
Yes! Five Acre Farm Shop will be open from 9AM to 4PM with coffee, food, and local goods.
Am I covered for injury or liability?
By entering the race or the farm on the day, you acknowledge that you're responsible for your own safety. Neither I (Caleb Pedersen or Backyard Run) nor Five Acre Farm accept liability for injury, loss, or damage to you or your family.
How is the race timed?
Each lap is timed using a large race clock. We’ll mark finish times manually on a clipboard and total them at the end.
Is there water and a toilet on site?
Yes, there’s a toilet and drinking water available at the farm.
Can I leave things at the base camp?
Yes — there’s a safe space near the start line for bags and kit, but please note this area is not secured or monitored, so bring valuables at your own risk.
Can my family buy a Backyard Run t-shirt?
Yes! Friends and family can pre-order our original 100% cotton Backyard Run tee. Orders close three weeks before race day.
Can I change my t-shirt size after ordering?
Once your size is submitted with your entry, it’s locked in. We order based on exact numbers, so no changes can be made after the cut-off date three weeks before race day.
What’s the terrain like?
The loop includes mixed terrain: fields, woodland paths, some uneven or muddy ground, and gentle hills. Trail shoes are recommended.
Do I need to bring ID?
No ID is required for check-in, but please make sure your emergency contact details are submitted accurately when you register.
Can I volunteer on the day?
Yes — we welcome a few extra hands to help with timing, base camp setup, and cheering. If you’d like to help, get in touch before race day.
What if the event is cancelled?
In the unlikely case that the organiser (Caleb) is unable to run the event due to illness or other unforeseen circumstances, the Backyard Run may be cancelled at short notice. By signing up, you acknowledge that the event is informal and community-run, and the organiser accepts no liability for costs or losses resulting from cancellation. We’ll do our best to reschedule to a suitable future date if possible — and keep everyone informed. We will not issue any refunds in the unlikely event of a cancelled run day. Runners will receive their t-shirts and be invited to take part in the run on a future date to be decided solely by the organisers.
